Jamie Demetriou Hosts SNL UK's Second Series Episode

BAFTA-winning writer and actor Jamie Demetriou, known for Stath Lets Flats and The Moment, recently hosted the second episode of Saturday Night Live UK‘s second series. Demetriou’s episode, which featured rock band Royal Blood as the musical guest, aired on Sky One at 10pm, following the series premiere on September 12.

Demetriou’s Hosting Performance

During his hosting stint, Demetriou showcased a humorous struggle with nicknames, as highlighted in a teaser sketch. When castmate Larry Dean casually referred to him as ‘JD’, Demetriou felt compelled to reciprocate with nicknames for Dean and fellow cast members Al Nash and Freddie Meredith, but found himself challenged, as reported by Chortle.

Demetriou’s involvement with SNL UK is not new; he previously worked as a consultant on Season 1 and collaborated with head writer Daran Jonno Johnson, according to Yahoo News UK.

SNL UK Series 2 Line-Up and Cast

The second series of SNL UK commenced on September 12 with Jeff Goldblum as the host and CMAT as the musical guest. Following Demetriou’s episode, Amelia Dimoldenberg of Chicken Shop Date is slated to host the third episode on September 26, with Rachel Chinouriri performing as the musical guest.

Premiere’s Royal Family Cold Open

The cold open for the second series premiere featured a sketch centring on Prince Harry, portrayed by Jack Shep, and Meghan Markle, played by Ayoade Bamgboye, during a return to England. The scene included King Charles II (Larry Dean) and Queen Camilla (Emma Sidi) at Balmoral Castle. The sketch referenced comments about Harry’s ‘Netflix money’ and Camilla’s remark on Meghan’s complexion. George Fouracres also made his debut as Prime Minister Andy Burnham, promising to buy everyone a pint, as detailed by Bleeding Cool News.

Production Background and Reception

Saturday Night Live UK first aired its initial season on March 21, 2026, featuring hosts such as Tina Fey, Hannah Waddingham, and Riz Ahmed. The debut episode on Sky garnered 226,000 viewers. Helen Kruger Bratt, managing director of Universal Television Alternative Studio, stated that early skepticism surrounding the series proved advantageous, allowing producers to “take on board that criticism and address them in the show.” For viewers in the US, SNL UK Season 2 is available to stream on Peacock following its UK broadcast.
